We Rise Together: NEW Sinfonia
Stories and music from all who call Wrexham home

Time & Location
01 Apr, 19:30
Wrexham, Church St, Wrexham LL13 8LS, UK
About the event
We are coming together at the heart of Wrexham to tell the stories of those who call the city their home. Join us for a musical celebration of diversity, peace, and culture sung by our inclusive vocal ensemble NEW Voices, refugees from Ukraine, Russia, and Syria, and played by the professional orchestra NEW Sinfonia.
Experience the dynamic poetry of Evrah Rose set to music by Jonathan Guy, amongst a plethora of diverse music which takes you from darkness, to dawn, to day.
Immerse yourself in Mozart’s dramatic Dies Irae, Eric Jones’ uplifting Y Tangnefeddwyr, and Roman Yakub’s joyful Ukrainian River Song. Bask in the beauty of the poignant spiritual Deep River and Barber’s profound Adagio for Strings. Enjoy favourites such as ‘Ar Hyd y Nos’ and join us in song with a congregational rendition of You’ll Never Walk Alone!
We have been delighted to strengthen our relationship with UareUK by welcoming refugees to our vocal ensemble NEW Voices. This concert will also include a new piece of music written by NEW Voices singer Klaus Armstrong-Braun. Having been orphaned during the second world war, Klaus took a circuitous route living with 19 host families in England, Wales, and Ireland, and has found a family and a home in Wrexham with NEW Sinfonia. Over the years he documented his story through poems and music and has written a song which will feature in We Rise Together.
This unique project is supported by Wrexham 2029. We are incredibly proud to be contributing once again to Wrexham’s bid to be UK City of Culture and we can’t wait to bring everyone together to celebrate our city’s diversity!
