In July, I will leave my conducting and upper strings teaching posts with Trafford Music Service as I move into the role of Director of Orchestras at the University of Manchester. I have had the pleasure of working for this incredible service for nine years; I got my job in the same month I finished my Bachelor’s course at the University of Manchester.
Trafford Music Service is an inspiring place to work. My colleagues are passionate about inspiring children and young people to make music. In the years I have worked for the service, all public funding from the council has been cut. I understand there are pressures everywhere, but in my opinion it is a miracle this service still exists; but not just that we have actually expanded beyond our wildest dreams. Our manager Ruth deserves great credit for this.
I have learnt so much working with children from infants, juniors, secondary, SEN and sixth forms. I will miss them and my colleagues so much. The skills and experiences I have learnt will stay with me.
Keep making music and thanks!
