I am very grateful to individuals and trusts who have supported me in pursuing my career since graduating. In particular, I am indebted to Philip and Christine Carne who have supported and encouraged me with pursuing my dreams as both a conductor and director of NEW Sinfonia.
The Richard Carne Trust was set up in 2006 by Philip and Christine Carne in memory of their son, Richard, who tragically died while at university. Originally focused towards providing scholarships for talented students at music and drama academies, the Trust has since expanded its remit to assist postgraduate career development, and to encourage and support broader opportunities within these artistic fields. Reflecting this wider mission and expanded age group, The Trust changed its name to The Carne Trust, effective January 2017.
Its founders, Philip and Christine Carne, have received various honorary awards from their partner academies, as well as the prestigious Prince of Wales Award for Philanthropy in the Arts.
Philip was given an MBE in the 2015 New Year’s Honours List, in recognition of the Trust’s philanthropic work with young artists.
