I am delighted to announce I have been appointed Director of Orchestras at the University of Manchester. In addition to conducting the university ensembles I will lead their elite undergraduate conducting programme. This role supplements my current role as Head of Choral Programme and lead their elite undergraduate conducting programme. Here is a copy of the press release from the university:
We are delighted to welcome Robert Guy as the new Conductor and Artistic Director of Manchester University Music Society (MUMS). This follows a triumphant year as conductor of the University of Manchester Chorus, a role in which Robert will also continue. A graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music and the University of Manchester, Robert quickly established himself as one of the most exciting conductors of his generation. As a regular guest conductor to the Manchester Camerata, he has worked with Tine Thing Helseth, recorded for Sony Playstation and conducted a new commission by Philip Venables for Manchester International Festival. He is part of the creative partnership between Welsh National Opera, North Wales International Music Festival and the award-winning NEW Sinfonia, for which he is Artistic Director. Career highlights to date include being appointed Conductor-in-Residence at the Inspire Arts Festival in South Korea and conducting the Astana Opera Orchestra in Kazakhstan. Highlights for the coming season include making his debut at the Mozarteum Orchesterhaus in Salzburg, conducting the Honor Chamber String Orchestra.
