Astana Music Society and ICEsteddfod

I will be in Astana from 28th Feb to the 4th March conducting and adjudicating a concert and eisteddfod celebrating St David’s Day. The competition was founded by my friend Ross Clarke who is Director of Music at the Haileybury School Astana and professional trumpeter. Ross founded the competition for children in international schools to celebrate welsh culture in the style of an eisteddfod. The competition is called ICEsteddfod, which is so named as at this time of year the temperature will be -10 – -20 degrees! Ross has been running St. David’s Day concerts since he arrived in Kazakhstan in 2012 and they have grown to fully fledged concerts. This will be the first time the Astana Music Society Chamber Orchestra will perform.

I will be adjudicating the whole competition as Chief juror and conducting the orchestra in music to include William Mathias’s Serenade for Small Orchestra. The ICEsteddfod is in partnership this year with BMW.
