In February I was invited to conduct the AMIS High School Honor String Orchestra in Salzburg. There were 48 young string players who auditioned and represented their schools from around the world. We worked on Joseph Suk’s Serenade for Strings, which for those of you know it, poses extremely challenging musical and technical demands on players.
There was nothing to worry about in Salzburg! I was blown away by the standard, musicianship and will from these brilliant young people to dive right into this piece and take the challenge on. We performed alongside the Honor Wind Band and Symphony Orchestra in the Mozarteum, Salzburg. I was so proud of the colours, shape and movement we gave to our performance and I came away feeling humbled and honoured to be part of such an experience! Good luck to all the young people involved for the future.
